The best time of year to charter a yacht in Dubai

November through March is the best time to charter a yacht in Dubai — clear air, flat sea and evenings you can sit out in. July and August are hot but have the calmest water of the year, and midweek mornings then are the cheapest hours on the calendar.

October to April: the season

This is when Dubai sails. Daytime is high twenties to low thirties, the humidity drops, the air is clear enough to see the whole skyline from ten kilometres out, and the evening on deck is comfortable rather than survivable.

It is also when everyone else books. Weekend sunset slots between November and February are the most contested hours of the year, and two to three weeks' notice is realistic rather than cautious. Midweek in the same months is wide open and identical weather.

May, June and September: the shoulder

Hot but workable, particularly early and late in the day. Water temperature is at its most pleasant — high twenties — which makes the swim stop better than in January, when the sea is genuinely cold for about ten minutes.

This is the best value window in the year. The weather is fine, the boats are free, and a longer charter negotiates well.

July and August: hot, calm, and cheap

Peak summer is not the disaster people assume, provided you go out at the right time. Mornings from 7am and evenings from 6pm are entirely bearable, and the sea in high summer is often glass — the calmest water of the year by a distance.

Midday is the part to avoid. Deck surfaces get genuinely hot and there is no breeze at anchor. A three-hour morning charter in August is a good day; a three-hour charter starting at noon is not.

What actually cancels a charter

Not heat and not rain — wind. The shamal is a northwesterly that blows through the Gulf several times each winter, kicking up a short steep sea that makes a charter unpleasant rather than dangerous. When one is forecast we move the booking rather than sail it.

The other one is fog, which forms on still winter mornings and closes visibility to a few hundred metres. It usually burns off by ten and delays a charter rather than cancelling it.

  • Shamal wind: several times a winter, one to three days each
  • Morning fog: December to February, usually cleared by 10am
  • Rain: rare, brief, and not on its own a reason to cancel
  • Heat: never a cancellation, but it moves charters to early or late

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is the best month to rent a yacht in Dubai?
November and February are the two best months — clear air, flat sea, and evenings comfortable enough to sit out in. October through March is all good; December and January are the busiest.
Can you charter a yacht in Dubai in summer?
Yes, and the sea is calmest in July and August. Go out before 9am or after 6pm and it is a good day; midday in high summer is not. Summer is also the cheapest time to book.
What weather cancels a yacht charter in Dubai?
Wind, specifically the shamal that blows through the Gulf several times each winter and raises a short steep sea. Fog delays winter morning charters. Rain and heat almost never cancel anything.
When is the water warmest for swimming in Dubai?
May through October, when the sea sits in the high twenties to low thirties. January and February are the coldest — swimmable, but the first ten minutes are a shock.
