An overnight yacht charter in Dubai runs from about 6pm to 10am the following morning and starts at AED 14,000 on our 62ft boat, sleeping up to six in three cabins. The night is spent at anchor in sheltered water off the Palm or the World Islands, not under way.

Very few people in Dubai have slept offshore, and it is stranger and better than it sounds. The city is four kilometres away and completely silent. The boat swings on the anchor, the deck lights go off around midnight, and in the morning you are swimming before anyone onshore has had breakfast.
The shape of the night is always the same: board in the evening, run out while the light goes, anchor for dinner, and stay put. Crew sleep aboard and keep an anchor watch. Breakfast is served under way on the run home, so you are back at the berth by mid-morning.
This is not a floating hotel and we should be plain about that. Cabins are yacht cabins — comfortable, air-conditioned, and smaller than a hotel room. If what you want is a bed with a sea view, a room at a Palm hotel is better value. If what you want is to be at anchor with nobody around, this is the only way to do it.

Worth knowing
- Overnight charters need coastguard notification, so we ask for three days' notice minimum.
- The anchorage is chosen on the day from the forecast. We will not sit out a rough night for the sake of a plan.
- Guest numbers for sleeping are lower than daytime capacity — six on the 62ft, not twenty-two.
