Book the hour. Thirty minutes costs AED 250 and covers the Marina mouth and the JBR shoreline; an hour costs AED 450 and reaches a stop directly off the Burj Al Arab, which is the ride people actually came for. The extra AED 200 buys the landmark, and the first ten minutes of any session are spent getting comfortable.

Out of the Marina mouth, along the JBR shoreline, a loop around the Bluewaters end and back. It is a genuine ride and it is enough to know whether you like jet skiing.
What it is not is enough to reach anything. The Burj Al Arab is about fifteen minutes out at cruising pace, so a thirty-minute session that went there would be a there-and-back with no stop. The guides do not run it for that reason.
The hour goes past the Palm and stops with engines idling directly off the Burj Al Arab — close enough that the building fills the frame. That stop is the single most photographed moment in Dubai watersports and it exists only on the hour and above.
There is a second, less obvious gain. Everybody spends the first ten minutes tense, sitting upright, over-braking. On a thirty-minute session that is a third of your time. On an hour it is a sixth, and the remaining fifty minutes are the ones you enjoy.
With children riding as passengers, where attention runs out well before an hour does. With a group of eight who all want a turn and a fixed budget — four skis for thirty minutes covers everyone better than two skis for an hour. And in July and August, when thirty minutes in direct sun is genuinely enough.
It is also the right call if you are nervous. Book thirty, and if you are enjoying it the guides can usually extend on the spot provided the next session is not booked.
