How many people can go on a yacht in Dubai?

Between 12 and 35 guests on a typical Dubai charter yacht, depending on the boat's length and its vessel licence. That number includes children and infants, it is a legal limit rather than a comfort estimate, and no captain can exceed it. For more than 35, a privately hired dhow takes up to 100.

The numbers, by boat size

Guest capacity does not scale neatly with length, because it is set by the vessel's commercial licence rather than by how many people fit on the deck. Two boats of the same length can carry different numbers.

  • 48ft — up to 12 guests, from AED 750 per hour
  • 55ft — up to 16 guests, from AED 1,050 per hour
  • 62ft — up to 22 guests, from AED 1,400 per hour
  • 85ft — up to 35 guests, from AED 3,200 per hour
  • Private dhow — up to 100 guests, from about AED 9,000 for two hours

Why the limit is not negotiable

The licensed number is what the vessel's safety equipment, life-raft capacity and insurance are rated for. A captain who exceeds it is operating outside the licence, and if anything goes wrong the insurance does not respond. Crews will turn people away at the pontoon rather than sail over the number, which is a miserable way to start an afternoon.

Children count. Infants count. A photographer, a DJ and a caterer's staff all count. If your list has thirteen people and the boat is licensed for twelve, the answer is a different boat, not a favour.

Groups larger than 35

Two options. A privately hired dhow takes up to a hundred guests from about AED 9,000 for two hours with a buffet, which works out near AED 90 a head — no yacht comes close at that size. Or two yachts running the same route together, which costs more but keeps the atmosphere of a private boat.

For a wedding or a launch above a hundred, a venue ashore with a boat for the photographs usually beats trying to put everyone afloat.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How many people can go on a yacht in Dubai?
Between 12 and 35 on a typical charter yacht, set by the boat's licence rather than its deck space. A 48ft carries 12, a 55ft carries 16, a 62ft carries 22 and an 85ft carries 35.
Do children count towards the yacht guest limit?
Yes, at any age, including infants. So do a photographer, a DJ and any catering staff. The licensed number counts everyone physically aboard.
What is the biggest group a boat in Dubai can take?
A privately hired traditional dhow takes up to 100 guests, from about AED 9,000 for two hours with dinner. Charter yachts top out around 35 on an 85ft.
How many people fit comfortably on a 48ft yacht?
Eight to nine for a relaxed half-day, against a licensed twelve. The full number is fine for a two-hour sunset run where people are standing and looking outward, and tight for four hours with lunch aboard.
Can we add one more person on the day?
Only if it stays inside the licensed number. Above it, a captain cannot sail, and the extra guest is turned away on the pontoon. Give the real headcount when you book.
